Sakarya city is an important tourism center of the Marmara Region. First of all beaches lies along Black Sea shores, lakes, rich forests and plateaus, valley and canyons, hot springs and mineral waters springs are natural values that Sakarya has.

Where to Visit

MUSEUMS

SakaryaMuseum: The museum building, which is in Sakarya Province, Merkez District, Semerciler Quarter, Milli Egemenlik Street, across the station, is established on an area of 1290 m2 with the garden.

The building that has been constructed by Major Baha Bey, Chairman of Military Service Office in three floors with the ground floor in 1910 – 1915, has been purchased by Hasan Cavit Bey, who was a close friend of Atatürk and who was a deputy. His house, where Atatürk has met his mother in June of 1922 and where they stayed for five days, has been damaged in the earthquake that took place in 1967. The house, which has been registered as a civil architecture sample in 1983, has been nationalized by our ministry and reconstructed as the museum building in compliance with its original and opened to visit in 1993.

In the ground floor of the building, service offices and boiler room, in the first floor the director’s room and an exhibition hall of 85 m2 and in the second floor a conference hall of 50 persons are located. In the garden of the museum, the architectural parts found in the borders of Sakarya province, belonging to Roman and Byzantine Periods, grave stones, altars, stones with inscriptions, ostotech, cooked earth storage jar and column bases are exhibited.

In the exhibition hall of the museum, a group of archeological works belonging to the Roman and Byzantine Periods and ethnographic works belonging to the Ottoman and Republic Periods are exhibited. Among the archeological works, there are flat hand axes, cooked earthenware pots, essence and tear bottles and metal and glass works.

Among the ethnographic works, which are selected from the Ethnography Museums of Bursa, Amasya, Konya, Tokat and Ankara, there are goods used by the Grand Leader Atatürk and firing and cutter guns, copper goods, seals and hand ornaments belonging to the Ottoman and Republic periods.

CASTLES

Harmantepe Castle: is take place on one hectare area of a little hill, upward site of Adapazari Harmantepe Village.

Adliye Castle: Castle that placed 1,5 km south of Adliye Village depended to Adapazari, estimated that probably built as border protection castle.

RELIGIOUS MONUMENTS

Mosques can be mentioned which placed in the Sakarya are; Orhan Mosque remains from Ottoman period at city center and Yunus Pasha Mosque 15th century Ottoman period creation at Tarakli.

Elvan Bey Charitable: building that built as only charitable establishment at the year of 1450, today still preserve it’s all properties. At the 3 domed buildings garden there is tomb of Elvan Bey that takes name from. Charitable establishment today used as library.

BRIDGES

Jüstinianus Bridge(Beşköprü): Bridges building process began at the year of AC 553 and ended at the year of AC 561, Bridge that built on Sakarya river by the Byzantine Emperor Jüstinianus, as a result of river change its bed it is now at the open ground.

Ali Fuat Pasha Bridge: Bridge built by Sultan 2nd Bayazit at the year of 1495, and connects Geyve county center to Ali Fuat Pasha town, known as Sakarya bridge too.

BEACHES

City that has approximately 60 km long shore to the Black Sea, has kilometer lying beaches covered with sand especially at Karasu and Kocaali counties.

LAKES

Sapanca Lake, Büyük Akgöl, Küçük Akgöl and Poyrazlar Lake are in the important natural beauties of city.

Poyrazlar Lake: Take importance place in cities tourism with environs and in forest resort places. Akgöl Lake, a little bit inner Karasu holiday center of the Black Sea. Both places have beautiful landscapes. Coastal sides of Karasu and Kocaali counties have important contribution and vigor to cities tourism activities.

Sapanca Lake: Sapanca Lake and environs that founded by tectonic formations of Sakarya, is a center that occupy especially weekend needs, recreation and resorting purposes of, city center and firstly Istanbul and other cities of region, because preserving very interesting natural beauties and location ease of arrival to dense settlement places. In Arifiye forest at high’s of Sapanca Lake, there are beautiful camping and picnic places present.

Sapanca lake that national and international surf, sail and rowing competitions arranged in, attract lots of sportive visitors with those kind of organizations.

THERMAL SPRINGS

Kuzuluk thermal spring is most important thermal spring of city. It is known as it has curative effects on every kind of stomach, liver, diabetes, kidney, rheumatism, upper respiratory system, neurological depression etc. diseases. Moreover; Akyazi Çökek thermal spring, Geyve Acisu, Geyve Ilica Village mineral water and Tarakli clay public bath are places can be benefit in connection with curative tourism.

Wood workmanship and wood scouring are can be seen at Tarakli region. Spoons made from Şimşir tree are sold every places of Türkiye.
